A folder in my Macbook pro doesnt open. When i try to open, my mac hangs for 4 seconds and finder closes automatically. When i try to delete it, it says "cannot delete. it is required my mac os X." However the files inside the folder can be accessed by spotlight. How to solve it??

If that is the Movies folder inside your User folder it is required by OS X. Opening it should not be crashing the Finder though. Time for a bit more troubleshooting. First I have a few questions to narrow things down a bit:

1. If you create a new User account and log into that account does opening the Movies folder cause the same problem?
2. Can you single click the folder and perform a "Get Info" on the folder what permissions are listed in the Sharing and Permissions section?

Is this folder located in the correct place (as described in Sylv's post)?

Good catch. I hadn't thought of the folder being moved. I figured if he was getting that error it must be in the right place.

Silly question from someone who has never renamed a home folder: Wouldn't that bork up other programs which expect their folders to be in specific places?

Would bork up everything. Couldn't do anything because it's not your folder anymore.

Thanks for confirming that. That's one reason I don't do it. I've had the same user folder name for years. I know I could change it and I've seen the directions. I don't want to deal with the consequences if I bork things up.

That would be why you can't access it. You're user should have read & write. From the sounds of it, you're user doesn't have any privileges for that folder. At the bottom, click the plus sign, add your users and make sure it has read & write privileges.
