Deleting from iPhoto

This is probably a really noob question but if I am in iPhoto and select a photo and hit my delete key the photo gets deleted from iPhoto. My question is if it's deleted from my computer. I am cleaning up my iPhoto to make space on my hard drive and want to make sure these are getting permanently erased. It just doesn't feel like they are by how easy it is. Haha.

Oh! :O! I didn't even see that. So if I empty trash it will erase all the images that are in the trash from Finder?
