Imac tipped over and cracked the screen. I know they are easy to replace (held by magnets), but where to buy one? The screen didn't shatter, but there is a nice long crack in the upper 1/4, top, so I may decide to just live with the way it is.

I don't know which exact iMac you have, but you should be able to get a replacement here:
Mac Parts & Apple Parts Store - Macintosh Parts

The part is called a "Display Bezel" or "Front Bezel".

Oh that eBay one is very cheap; thanks. Computer may need further repairs, though. It went to sleep a couple of times within 5 seconds of non-use (I have it set to automatically sleep in a half hour). It's working fine now though *crosses fingers*.

This might sound strange but on my late 2007 20" Aluminum iMac acted very strange if the screws that hold the bezel on were loose! It went to sleep and did weird stuff with the mouse. I had it apart to change the hard drive and optical drive and had the screws loose to be sure it was working right. I tightened them and the issue went away and never returned. Check that before you put on the new glass. Can't hurt and if it fell hard maybe something came loose.

Info like that is part of the reason I keep coming back here. That would never have occurred to me.

Would anyone have a part number (the glass) for the "mid-2011"? I bought my Imac in August of 2012, the last model before the super slim ones came out, so mine is considered a mid-2011, yes? thank you.

You still have yet to tell us if this is the 21.5" or 27" model. If it is the model in your avatar go with gsahli's link to DV Warehouse.

His last post confused me. Somehow made me think it was a 27". Will change the posts for the proper part number. He asked for the Part number thus my posts. Thanks Charlie for setting this right!

Ok Edited my post above with the 21.1 listing and part number. Price is way to high but he wanted the part number and there it is! :D

That looks good and since the seller is an authorized Apple reseller of parts, it should be the correct part. Make sure you go to ifixit and follow the instructions for replacing it yourself. That panel can easily be broken when fitting it - and be careful of fingerprints and dust. Use tight gloves and anti-static fluid.

No, I don't suppose breaking the new screen would make my day. It's cracked in 3 places and I think I can pick it apart without using suction cups, but I will be wearing safety glasses incase it shatters.

Well that was easy.
Even though it had 3 separate cracks the screen came out intact. I used my hands to pry it out, getting a finger hold under one of the broken pieces. Putting it in was easy without suction cups or any other tools, just place it in the bottom groves and slowly letting the magnets grab it. Always wear eye protection.

Side note: The glass is incredibly thin, about the thickness of a butter knife.

Glad to hear it went well. Hopefully, no fingerprints or dust on the inside of the glass? ;)

Ugh...darn it. I just noticed that I chipped the glass at the bottom left corner. I must have pivoted it too far out and it caught on the aluminum body. Hardly noticeable so I'll get over it, but be warned.
