Help needed to install snow leopard when you dont have a working dvd drive.

hello i have a 6 year old imac and its cirrently mac os x 10.5.8 and i need to upgrade.

I have purchased the mac os x snow leopard dvd but i cannot install it as my dvd drive no longer works in the imac.

Does anyone know how i can transfer the operating system files from the dvs onto a usb to the install it on my imac from usb. i can get access to another imac or pc to access the snow leopard dvd.

You will need a mac since you use disk utility to do this

Once done you press the alt key on startup to select the usb drive as the boot volume, but backup the stuff on your existing mac first
