Hi. I'm looking for a way to blacklist some websites on my macbook pro (10.6). I've found a few options but none of them work or can just be bypassed.

The selfcontrol app is nice but works on a timer, not a constant block. SelfControl

I've found multiple tutorials on how to block stuff with the terminal but this can also be undone easily. http://masonsklut.com/blog/how-to-block-websites-on-your-mac-using-terminal/

The built-in parental controls can only be applied to non administrator accounts, which I don't want on my computer.

Are there any other options? I would really appreciate any help.

Add the sites you wish to block to your "hosts" file. Read the following article which although a bit old is still applicable. Make sure you backup your hosts file first!

Thanks but it looks like those blocks could be removed by deleting the entry from /etc/hosts

Nothing is going to block a URL that can't then be unblocked by someone with the proper credentials. What exactly are you trying to do?

Then I would suggest not allowing anyone else access to your Mac. ;)
