First off, I have purchased at least $200.00 worth of music on iTunes within the past year. My buddy was messing with my iTunes Account info and saw how many songs I actually purchased. He kept on telling me just use Limewire. I have heard that you can get a Virus and what not easily on Limewire. Can someone confirm if you can or cant get a Virus on a Mac using Limewire?

Thanks in advance for any Feedback

No viruses currently on Limewire are dangerous once on a mac. By the way your not supposed to ask about illegal stuff.

Stick with iTunes, it is worth the minimal cost. Easy to find what you want, reliable quality, don't have to go to the trouble of setting up the ID3 tags, no legal troubles...

Just for the record, having Limewire isn't technically illegal, so you can talk about it. You just can't talk about downloading copywritten material.

LimeWire stuff is usually ok for mac, but can be a bit risky (imho) on an average Windows machine.

TBH I'd say you're better off sticking with iTunes. I used to download stuff through LimeWire/Torrents and their predecessors fairly regularly. Hated the idea of paying for my music. But iTunes has made me a total convert to the 'light' side. It's a great system. Fairer pricing in the main than actually buying CDs and the aforementioned quality/legality/id3 tags issues make it very appealing.

Most stuff on LimeWire is around the 128kbps quality mark. And usually has poor/missing/wrong tags.

I like Bittorrent for my large files (Linux OS's) but I use acquisition for any smaller files.

I have had NO ISSUES with Limewire on my Mac with Panther or Tiger. Like I said in another thread here on MF, i don't use it a lot, but the little I do it works fine.

No issues with Limewire on my mac either. And, for the record, I don't use LW to download porn. That's what bittorrent is for!

When I use limewire it works fine on both my powerbook and powermac, no problems... only download things thoug i have the rigth to download because I don't want to get in any legal trouble. (ie. non-copyrighted images or songs people made in garage band, i like listening to examples to learn)

Blech, Limewire is to peer-to-peer networks what Blink 182 is to punk rock...

I use Limewire on my PC. Never got a virus or anything, I enjoy using it for what it may be. I buy some music off iTunes now and then, great service. I use BT also, except the seeding back part is a killer :p

I only use LW because itunes isn't available in my country. Nevertheless, LW works great on my powerbook.

iMac2K6, since you've spent so much on music I'm guessing you value the music and you like to support the artist/band? If you download from limewire/bittorrent then the artist gets nothing (ie, pretty much stealing the music they produced).

Don't let your buddy convince you to start stealing music just because he does it, and don't let him make you feel like a chump for buying when he's getting it for free.

i purchase plenty of music, im not saying to go download music because thats illegal, but cds cost around 15 dollars, and there are wayyyy too many people making money off of that, not even so much the artist, if you want to support the ARTIST, go to a show or buy a t-shirt off their website, even buy the cd directly from their site, buying cds in stores support stores more so than the artists. plan-it-x records sells cds for $5 shipped i believe and they still make a profit, that makes me, for one, think about where my moneys going when i buy a cd from a chain store. dont get me wrong, there is this local indie store i spend over 400 dollars a year there (i know because they give you a punch card LOL) anyways i just wanted to say that free music is as harmful to the artists as the riaa and people make it out to be as long as you support the artist in at least some kind of way. wow that was long :p

thats prolly why its record companies doing so much complaining and not so many artists, because the record companies are making most of the money. h3ll i know a few bands that have their cds up for download on their sites, 128kbps of course
