I get up at 3am and after bathroom duties I get online. This morning as I was getting up from my desk to go to work I happened to glance at the screen and I see a window from Airport Utility pop up. Stayed up a few seconds and disappeared.
I didn't start it, no one else in the house is awake - no one else has physical access. Network has a GOOD, random letter/number password. Remote access is not turned on.
Turned off file sharing and then wifi beforeI left but am wondering: what would or even could start Airport Utility? Updates? I wouldn't think so.
Any ideas?

I apologize that I did not give you a serious answer...it really bothers me that they do what they do. I'll save that discussion for another forum.
Let's hope the Airport incident was a one time thing. Like you, I am curious as to what happened.

Hmmm, I've never seen this before. I do see that mine needs a firmware update so perhaps yours opened to make the similar update. Is it set to check automatically in the preferences?

There's also the last option in the preferences window to monitor the base station. At the bottom of the preference window is a message notifying you that if the base station light blinks amber, AU will open (with the last option checked). Is this the case for you?

Well now...
Silly me, I assumed it would only check for updates when the app was running. Learn something new every day.
It did indeed have an update ready. I also see what you're talking about under the prefs Van. That's a load off. wasn't looking forward to reinstalling system to get a bogey.
Thanks all.
And Dogbreath, no apology needed. I was making fun of them too.

PS: dang. It says I must spread some rep around before giving to Van again. Consider this a ghost rep. :)

That's new to me as well. I only learned about this while looking for a solution to this problem. Looks like we both learned something new today!
