Using a MBP running 10.6.8. How do I take a screen shot?

Your Mac's Specs
15in i7 MacBook Pro, 8GB RAM, 120GB SSD, 500GB HD
Shift + Command + 3 will take a screenshot of the entire screen
Shift + Command + 4 will take a screenshot of what you drag and cover with the mouse
Shift + Command + 4 then Space will take a screenshot of the window you click on

Thanks! I searched for this - I was sure there were commands - but couldn't find them. Can you now tell me how to retrieve the image? I assumed Command + V in appropriate software, but it doesn't seem to do anything.
