I'm not even sure if I'm using the right terminology there, but what I thought was a problem with my Thunderbolt external HDD not turning on has turned out to be a problem with connectivity via the Thunderbolt ports in my iMac (OSX 10.8.4.)

I know the drive and cable work, because it connects via USB to my iMac, and by Thunderbolt to my girlfriend's MBP, so the problem seems to be with my machine's Thunderbolt ports. Any idea how to check and see if they're firing/working without taking my machine in?

Two things I like to try first when problems occur like this are an SMC and a PRAM reset:

SMC Reset
PRAM Reset

Thanks, pigoo3! I had no idea about those things. I'm going to give those a shot in a little while.
