I suspect the person I purchased the iMac from had deleted it. I would very much like it back. How can I do this?

Thank you!

When I right click on an application in the Dock or after it's opened, the only notation about Finder that's given is "Show in Finder". There is no "Open in Finder". However, if I right click on my "Documents" folder, then the "Open in Finder" appears.

Right click the folder. Is "View content as" set to grid? If not, you'll need to set it to that.

Perhaps a corrupt plist file? What is your OS version?

The OS is 10.8.4 (Lion). I'm not terribly computer-savvy; what is/how can I check the plist file?

Show us a screen capture of the machine that doesn't have it instead of one that does.

Try just moving the Applications folder off the dock and release it. Should go up in a puff of smoke.
Then open Finder and drag it back to the dock.

Good deal. :) Sometimes the fix just leaves you scratching your head.

Yes indeed. I'm surprised that it was apparently a corrupt alias on the Dock, or something.

Reminds me of last night at home. Turned off the TV, turned off the satellite receiver, left for a couple of hours. Came back, turned them on but could not get a picture (live TV) or play a recorded program (it has a hard drive!). So I figured it was a setting on the TV that was messed up. Turned them off, went to bed. Got up, turned them on, everything back to normal. What's up with that?
