I recently had the motherboard on my iMac replaced and I've noticed a minor issue with my system preferences settings. I scheduled an automatic shutdown at 11:00PM every evening and noticed there was a 10 minute gap between the 11:00PM shutdown and when it actually shutdown. I have changed the shutdown time six or seven times and there is always a 10 minute difference between the time I set and the time it actually shuts down. Any way to fix this?

If you temporarily create a new user, reboot and log into that user then try the same shutdown request. Does it still take 10 mins?

Is there a crucial reason for the time to be perfectly in sync?

Maybe it's a built-in "oops" feature. I really like the 60 seconds to shut down in Leopard. I can't count how many times I had shut down and immediately realized I could have done one more thing first.

toMACsh,

Thanks for putting a different spin on the issue. Even though 10 minutes one way or the other doesn't really make a difference I was looking at it like it's indicative of more severe problem. I'll just apply a little Buddhist philosophy, "it is what it is."
