Wep Key?

Hi,

I've been trying to find out what a Hexcidecimal Password is so I can set one up on my wireless router. I have a D-Link 604 that I access through a URL in Safari. Everyone I've spoken to tells me just to input a phrase and click enter, the router will take over and reset it as Hexcidecimal for me but it doesn't. I just get an alert asking me to enter 14 Hexcidecimal figures... its driving me MAD!

As for D-Link, their manuals are about as useful as as a chocolate fire guard!

Can someone tell me, preferably in laymans terms that I can understand, how to set this up? I think my neighbour is using my connection but can't prove it.

This is how we set up an ambit modem...

key format - hex mode
key length - 128 bits (26 digits)
Network Type - infrastructure
security method - wep key (pre-shared key)
ssid network name - last four digits of mac address of router
wep data encryption - enabled
wep key - router's mac address followed by 14 zeros. (this would be the 26 digits)

Brilliant! Worked a treat and my network is now secure, although my Airport Express has now gone missing but I'll reset that tonight and see if I can get it working.
