2008 or so macbook with OSX 10.6.8, just bought this used, works fine but when I click on Safari, it does not show a wireless net connection option? It's asking for a wired connection, doesn't this laptop come with built-in wireless card?

All MacBook models come standard with a wireless adapter, known as AirPort. You'll need to establish a connection to your wireless router (assuming you have one) before you can open Safari and start browsing (just as you would with a new PC).

Typically, the wireless network controls are up on the Menu bar:

From there, you'll notice a list of available wireless networks and choose yours from the list to connect.

If for some strange reason you can't find the icon in the menu bar (it's there by default), then it's time to take a look at the Network preferences (located in System Preferences, accessible by clicking the Apple menu and choosing 'System Preferences'):

If you don't see AirPort or 'WiFi' listed in the left pane, then chances are your wireless card was removed by the previous owner or it's malfunctioning.

Let us know how you make out.
