Unless I'm mistaken, a Windows Phone is an ARM architecture and Windows 8 runs on X86 only. So the apps shouldn't work. The same is true in the Apple world, you cannot run an iOS App on OS X..different architectures..

I think you may have hit on the OP's confusion Razor. It seems that the term App store is sometimes used for the app section of iTunes and other times used to refer to Mac applications purchased through that system.

Here's the rule: Apps purchased through the apps section of iTunes can only run on IOS devices (iPad, iPhone, etc). Apps (applications/programs) purchased through the separate Mac App store program can only be run on Macs. These apps will not run on IOS devices.
