Word 2011 for Mac has just quit on my computer. Everything else works (Powerpoint, excel etc.) I've read some forums that said to unistall Word then reinstall it. This program was one that I was able to install through my school system. If I unistall it will I be able to reinstall because of this?

In order to reinstall Word you will need the disk it came on and the product id number (serial number). Without that it may not activate and will not work. If you're still at school you may be able to download it again from the school's servers. Also, you can not just uninstall Word, the entire Office 2011 program has to be uninstalled. There is no way to separately uninstall any Office 2011 program without removing the entire Office suite.
