Apparently I've downloaded malware...
an oblong black box that mimics where I'm at on the screen...
and a insane laughing voice...

I was on Google, on youtube, had my keyboard in my lap, cat jumped up off the floor, next thing I know I hear this insane laughing...can't turn it off, can't get rid of the black oblong box.
Have rebooted, looked to see if any new apps were in my folder...

Is this something going around...

I'm in Mt. Lion, new user, does it have any anti-malware remover software?

Thanks,

Vernon

Take a screenshot following this article and post here.

Likely not malware by accessibility has been turned on to say what you are looking at..

Go to Systems Preferences->Accessibility and disable anything that's enabled..

Cats are somehow ALWAYS capable of hitting the right shortcut sequence to make this happen..

malware ...not

RazOedge,

Thanks. I would have never figured that out...it was accompanied by an insane sounding laugh and the black box with describing what I was doing on the screen...

Cat is now out of "time out".

For all you cat haters and dog lovers, Where I had to move had a dog. It jumped on my stuff, destroyed my iMac G5 peeing all over it and then tried to bite my iPad into pieces. The dog is no longer here but my cats are! :D

A lot of people who get VoiceOver turned on say they hear a laughing or something. You turn it on and off with CMD+F5 and I did that now and I hear a male voice saying which window has focus, which box as focus and trying to spell out everything I type..

I, however, don't hear any laughing and anything. That must be the "insane" feature..:)

Then they are truly . . . Mad Macs! ;)

Is the Beyond Thunderdome theme music playing in the background?

LOL! Hey Dennis, you're supposed to teach your dog to pee on Windows 8, not Mac OS X. ;P

Cats are not perfect either:

- hairballs everywhere
- torn-up curtains from climbing
- claw scratches all over my baby grand piano
- ripped up furniture upholstery from being used as a scratching post
- knocking things over (and breakage) from climbing on & around things
- etc. etc.

p.s. Sorry to hear about the iMac and iPad.:( I have "bad dog" stories as well!;)

One of the voices for the Mac is a laughing voice called Hysterical. You can sample it and see if that's the issue.
