Is there an equivalent to the BBC iPlayer desktop that allows you to store programmes on the device, in this case an iPad, to listen to offline for a week?

The iPad iPlayer app allows downloading of content. However, at this time that does not including radio content.

For radio content you can easily record from the BBC radio websites for up to a week after a program has aired. I use Audio Hijack Pro for this, since I already own it and it has a scheduling feature to handle recording automatically. There's another program called WireTap Studio from Ambrosia that does this as well.
