I have had this icon on my mac for a while and can't get it off. It is light in color and I cant figure out how to delete it. Nothing happens when I click on it.

It is a blue S and a head. (looks like skype???)

What does it stand for and how do I remove it?

Thank you!

what is this blue S with head?.jpg

You can probably get rid of it by holding down your command key and drag the icon to the desktop and drop it. However, you should find out what it is before doing that. Sorry, I have never seen that particular icon. But I'm sure someone else will recognize it, so hold on for awhile.

What happens when you left-click or right-click on that icon?

I don't use Skype but that very well could be their icon.

Check System Preferences - your user account login items.
Typically, any 3rd party app loading at startup will be listed there.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. ;)

mw76, what have you installed on your machine (both still on your machine and any app that has been removed)? Although we'd love to know about every app, we're going to need a list to work from.

It was time for a change. It's not my first Futurama avatar, might not even be my first Bender one. There are plenty to spare! I liked the whole "what's he looking at" stare that he has. Come on... admit it. Made you look, right?

Nothing happens when I right/left click. Can't do anything to it. So strange.

We may need to see a list of all processes running, found using Activity Monitor. You can look it over yourself and see if any process that begin with an "S" might be the culprit. Or post a list of what's running so we can look it over. Easiest way to do so is save the list (from the menu) as a text file, then copy/paste the contents of that text file in a reply here.

Agree with LB. That should help you solve it.

Something stuck in your menu that was removed from Applications? Try rebuilding the System User Interface plist file. That controls some menu functions. The exact file is com.apple.systemui.plist

Wait, that doesn't look right. I'll check on my Mac when I get the chance.

This is really bothering me because someone asked about this very icon a while back and I remember figuring it out. Of course, for the life of me, I can't remember what app it was.

EDIT: I can't seem to find the thread. I'll continue the search later.

You sir, are a good man. Well done finding that!

Excellent work indeed. But . . . .I thought I was your favorite minion. Did I do something wrong again? :Mischievous:

You spelled favourite wrong - I can't privilege people with poor spelling. :p
