Frozen email

I have a MacBook air and love it, however just last night the email locked up on it. I was at a hotel using their wifi... The email (cox.com) popped up showing no message selected and the little color wheel spinning. I waited.....and waited....finally tried to close and could not get it to respond at all. The other programs seem to be working fine...help please!!!!

I have no idea what locked up the Mail program but in that rare situation, option-command-esc will bring up a dialog that allows you to "force quit" the malfunctioning program. You can also do this by clicking and holding on the program's icon in the dock while the option key is pressed.
