Hey guys. I have a 2007 mac book pro and I had issues where it kept crashing on me. I thought I fixed the problem by doing a repair disk on it as it said directories were out of order...but recently it started crashing again. I checked the disk and it said there was no errors. To test if it is the drive I formatted and reinstalled OSX. After the installation it crashed again on set up. I rebooted and it seems to be working fine now but just in case this is the error report. I thought it was a failing drive my father, who is not a mac person but is a pro PC user, said it looked like to him that the Lap Top is over heating because I use the lap top in and on the bed. Which I am guilty of. What do you guys think? A side note history I recently had the logic board replaced by Apple because of the video card melting issue...Here is the error LOG.

I download SMART and it said everything with my drive is fine.

I did verify disk and it said everything is okay.

However, I did a verify disk permissions and it gave me similar errors that I got prior to formatting my drive. Basically saying the permissions could not be verified on Epson and Cannon printer scanners which is odd because this is a fresh install.

I called Apple Care and it they said it sounds like I did not format or erase my drive properly. I did it in target disk mode attached to my Mac Pro and they said they don't recommend doing that, as it should be done with the install disks or in recovery mode for Mountain Lion.

So I will try that... Any theories or thoughts?

To give you an update...

I did a clean wipe, and it gave me only a few errors but not the printers anymore. It said some things that were graphics related. Anyhow, I did repair disk permissions and this time it let me and now it says its okay.

So the disk checks out with SMART, Verify Disk Permissions and Verify Disk.

Could it be anything else?

Target Disk mode is not the most reliable. Fingers crossed that things will run fine now. Don't worry about all those 'warning' message in repair Permissions. Just ignore them. The graphic messages may have been confusion between the Mac Pro and the MBP graphics.

Mac OS X: Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions messages that you can safely ignore

Yea, things worked find today but I just had another freeze crash. No clicking nothing. Any thoughts of what this could be? The logic board was replaced a few months ago because of the Nvidia chip melting issue that plagued these computers.

If SMART and Disk Utility says my disk is fine could it still be causing these crashes?

I guess the only thing left would be to take it to the apple store and have them run it through their MRI software?

Also I upgraded to Mountain Lion 10.8.4 when I wiped this machine and after the crash no crash log came up. In Mountain Lion do I have to go some where to get the report?

Try looking in Console under Utilities and see what bis recorded there. So far as taking it to Apple, by all means. However at going on for seven years may well be in the 'obsolete' class with no, or very expensive, repairs.
