Transferring Data From HDD to iMac

Simple question: How can I transfer my documents/pictures/etc from the HDD from my derelict Toshiba Sattelite L500D-00F to my iMac. I've heard of different software and cable methods but I'm having some trouble finding a concrete answer (and I value the views of the members here) so can anybody help me out?

You can download and use the free Windows Migration Assistant from Apple. Download from here. Be sure to read the Apple instructions so you'll know exactly where your files from the Toshiba will wind up on your Mac.
