I had a normal size glass of water spill on Thursday night (4 July). I wiped up the spill and turned off the machine. The next morning I took it to iFix (Apple repair specialist). I tested the small button on the side, which lights up the 8 green dots on Friday morning at home as well as just before I handed it in and they worked perfectly. This gave me hope that my laptop will survive.

The laptop was then booked in, I was told it would be cleaned with club soda and alcohol immediately. The next day I came to collect and the Macbook is completely dead - The green lights on the side do not show up and the light on the charger does not show at all.

Has the battery died? How could the green lights show before I handed it in for repair and not afterwards? Could it be a connection problem from the logic board to the battery?

Thanks!

Spills are unpredictable. The fact that your MacBook Pro was on when the spill occurred makes the likelihood of something shorting out on the logic board high. Since it was taken to an Apple repair specialist shop, what did they tell you?

And liquid + electronics = death all too often alas.

Sometimes this problem takes days or weeks for fully materialize and the logic board fail. If the MBP is more than a year or two old consider selling for parts only and replacing and keep all fluids well away.
