I use afloat to keep most of the window always on top but it doesn't work for some apps like excel, textwrangler etc...

How can I make excel, textwrangler etc.. to stay on top even if I focus on some other apps?

Another way of solving this problem: put each of those apps into their own "space." That way they are always "on top" in their own space, and all you have to do is move spaces (I use either the control-(arrow) method or Mission Control for this).

Thanks chas_m for the suggestion. I'm not aware of what "space" is. Can you tell me more about it?

Can you tell me more about it?

I would help if you provided info about your Mac too, especially what version of Mac OSX you have.
