mail password

I have an iMac,I want my incoming mail to be password protected.When I go into preferences to make the change to my incoming mail server,my changes are not saved even though on click save.

You need to change your password on the mail server, not just on your local Mac. What mail service do you use? (like gmail, yahoo, local company etc)
