Are most of the harddrives that are on sale at the regular retail locations all Mac compatible?

Also, are the Quad G5's SATA II compatible?

Thanks

Yes, all hard drives are compatible, but not all formatting is compatible and not all macs use all the same drive types. You can reformat any drive that is compatible with the controller in the computer. So just don't go trying to hook up a sataII to a Performa 8600. Also, some of the macs can only recognize upto a certain portion of a drive as well... I think... but thats not the newer ones.

That will depend on the controller in the Mac. The onboard bus controller on my G4 will only read up to 128Gb. I bought a PCI ATA/IDE card that overcomes that for about $30 and can run bigger drives now.
