Chicken of the VNC

Is it possible to connect to a remote computer if you only have the IP address but not the password? I'm on Mac 10.8.4

For CotVNC to work, that remote computer must be first be running the VNC server. If it's a remote Mac, then screen sharing does that. But you will still need the password to get in..

That will only work if no password has been set. However, I'd recommend against using a password less based server - that's terribly unsecure and should be fixed the next chance you get.

I'm trying to connect to another Mac. I know the system password but not the wireless router password, which I think is the one required.

No, the password you want is the password set for the remote login service (in this case, VNC). The wireless password has nothing to do with remote login.

So would the remote computer need to have Cotvnc installed on it?

No, you can't just hack into someone else's remote computer and gain control of it just with their IP address unless that computer is allowing it.
