my boss uses mac mail for his bellsouth email, he has folders with hundreds of saved emails, he wants to delete his bellsouth account (eventually) and has a new .yahoo email. my question (finally) is this: when he disconnects his bellsouth account will he loose all his folders and his hundreds of emails within them in mac mail ?

No he shouldn't lose them. The folders are created on the Machine and not on the server. The e-mails he will have saved within the Folders. The only way he can lose them is if he deletes them himself.

Since "Murphy's Law" seems to strike when we are least expecting it to..... Tell your boss to backup all his mail before switching accounts. Use Time Machine or even better, cloning software such as Carbon Copy Cloner.
