because the sync session failed to start:Grimmace:

Any ideas anyone? I have tried a suggestion of going into Preferences and deleting the last back up but that has not worked. It is an iPad 1 by the way, 2.5 years old but has always worked perfectly.

Disconnect the cable.
Hard boot the iPad (hold sleep and Home until the screen blanks and the apple logo appears)
