Why does Skype lag in these kinds of situations?

Hello, I'm experiencing a awfully irritating time with my Skype.
So I log in on my Mac (Version 10.6.8, 2.4 GHz) I change my status to 'Online', and I click on a friend's contact.
Then, Skype just freezes. The same thing will just happen over and over again.
Any suggestions on how to fix this problem will be greatly appreciated..

Are you having problems with any other application, browsing the net, and so forth? Also, can you contact anyone else with Skype besides your friend?

Skype takes its sweet time getting up to speed on the iPhone, but I have found that it generally works. Not anywhere near as well as FaceTime or Vonage, quite frankly, and lately its been terribly laggy for me on 3G (which is odd). Try the test call and see if the problem is actually with Skype or something on your friend's end.

Well, I don't have any problems with other applications.
Also, it's just that Skype just freezes and doesn't work...

But did you try the test call?
