How to make a video like this on a Mac

Now this guy makes a video very similar to how Khan Academy would. But the difference is that he can actually put well printed equations into it as well as circle things to monentarely highlight while not having to erase.

So, any idea what software he uses? Is this even feasible on the mac?

He's most likely using a tablet like the wacom or something similar so that he can write into it and have an app that shows up what he's writing. The capturing part is easy since any of them can be told to capture just one application window..

Capturing part? you mean the part where he highlights? and the highlight disappears after a few seconds?

No..that's likely part of whatever software interfaces with the tablet. Like changing the colors and having things appear and disappear..

Technically, this is possible easily with any paint program, a tablet and liberal use of CMD+z..

The tablet will give you the pencil/pen touch and output. The paint program will let you choose the pen style, color and so on. The CMD+z to undo the temporary highlighting with circles, arrows and so on.

What about the equations? It seems he is able to put rich text math into the blackboard. You know, textbook like equations, not something that can be written on a wacom.

To be honest, math scares me and I didn't watch the entire video..but a tablet should allow for freeform writing and I wouldn't think it would manage all that, can't imagine that the wacom would restrict what types of things you can draw/write..

This isn't exactly difficult either, you can easily load these into many graphics applications.. especially if the formula is a graphic image. Easy peasy.
