Hi !

I got an issue on my macbook pro retina 15".
Brand new that I bought a month ago.
Just updated it with 10.8.4
And now I lost all systems icons in finder, safari, app store and so on.

I spent some hours to search and try some solutions, but nothing resolved my issue.

Here are some screenshots.

Thanks !

Update : I tried with another user, and icons are here, so it's related to my curent user

Well it would be helpful if you could mention what you've tried so we don't spin our wheels suggesting the same things.

Sure !

- cleaning with onyx, cleanmmac2
- disk repairing
- permissions repairing
- deleting preferences ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
- try to rebuild launch services (can't find the command I used)

^^^ that

1st thing I'd try would be to download and apply the 10.8.4 combo update - link

That's what I'm getting at - but use that combo update I linked to above.

Good deal - a lot of folks use those combo updates instead of the ones that come down through the normal Software Updates for exactly this reason.

The combo updates just don't seem to have the rare problems that arise.

Bad news.

The bug is back again, and this time the combo update has no effects

Thinking to do a fresh install :/

Go into System Preferences - Users & Accounts - Log in Items

Remove everything that's there by highlighting and clicking the "-" button below.

Then reboot.

Grasping at straws to save you from re-installing.

Try uninstalling CleanmyMac - with it's uninstaller if it has one.

What other cleaning/maintenance/antivirus apps have you installed beside Onyx?

I'd probably try deleting the Finder plist file one more time also.

I've removed cleanmymac, finder preferences plist.
Cleanmydrive, removed.
And TotalFinder too.
Only Onyx left.

Nothing change.

Pretty sure TotalFinder would not be the cause.

With a good backup - I'd probably go ahead and try the reinstall - only takes about 30-45 minutes to do that.

Perhaps someone else might have another idea?

Personally, would not put CleanMyDrive or CleanMyMac back on the machine.

Yes, I will reinstall, this is my best solution.

I have a Macbook Air too, with the same exact installation, and it's fine.
It's so weird.

Many thanks for your help ! ;)
