I'm looking for Computer speakers for my Macbook(original). My budget is $20- 40 dollars. I like my speaker to have clear and crisp when I listen to music even the lo-fi indie rock music. Also having bad experiences with computer speakers on my macbook for not having clarity.
What speaker do you recommend?
Can I get at a good price?
Do I have to buy Apple's proprietary overpriced licensed speakers?
What speakers do you use and are you happy with them?
Thank you
-Chris

Are we talking external speakers or headphones? And your budget isn't very high to get anything really expensive..

With a budget for good sounding speakers set at $20 to $40, you had better look for a "Big Lots" store nearby your home.... Decent sounding external speakers are going to cost more than your budget. Even good headphones are more than $40.

External Speakers and my real question about Apple's proprietary licensed speakers is: Do I have to buy Apple's proprietary licensed speakers to buy speakers that crisp and clear sound to them or can I regular speakers for that?

Not sure what you mean about proprietary speakers? If you had like 300 or more to spend you could get a set of B&W speakers and they'd be fine..

You can use any speakers. In all the years I've been an Apple/Macintosh user/owner...I can only think of one computer model (out of hundreds) that an Apple sold speaker had to be used (and your MacBook is not that one model)!;)

At $20-40, would recommend you get speakers from either Dell or Creative Labs.
They will have as good as you can get for the money and at that price range, personally would not even glance at any other brands.

You are not going to get "clear and crisp" at $40.
At $20 probably go with Dell.
At $40, check Amazon for CL's T10, T12 or T3130.
The T10 & T12 will likely have more clarity, while the T3130 will offer more bass due to adding a sub.
