cant restart

as of two days ago my mac refuses to restart or shut down other than a manual pull the plug. help. i have osx version 10.6 2.4 ghz and 4 gb mhz ddr2 sdram

2017 15" MBP, 16gig ram, 1TB SSD, OS 10.15
What computer model are we talking about? Since we're in the "Apple Desktops" area...are we talking an iMac, Mac Pro, Mac-Mini?

- Have you tried an SMC reset?

- How about resetting the PRAM?

- You could also try booting from a OS DVD...and scanning the HD for problems.
- Repair Permissions

THX NICK TRIED THE 1ST 2 THINGS DIDN'T WORK. NOT SURE WHAT OS DVD IS. I HAVE AN I MAC sory bout the caps
