Hi,
I have 27" iMac 3.4 GHz (Late 2012). I want to buy 32 GB of RAMs to it. I'll sell the ones that came with my iMac so I have to buy new 8GB x4... I want to buy Kingston HyperX RAMs which are the fastest RAMs available for my iMac but I'm not sure if they are compatible with my iMac. The exact model name is this: KINGSTON (KHX16S9P1K2/16) 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3-1600MHz SoDIMM... Can I buy this model? Will it work with my iMac flawlessly and without giving me any trouble in the future? Did anyone tried these on this iMac before? It is very important for me because the store that I'll buy these from do not accept returns once their boxes are opened. Also is it okay to use CL9 RAMs like these on an iMac which has came with CL11 RAMs in it? Does it have any disadvantages or compatibility issues? Please help and enlighten me :) Thanks!

I always use 2 Kingston KTA-MB1600K2/16G to max out a new 27" iMac, or 2 Crucial 16GB kits Part #: CT3650278 (DDR3 PC3-12800 • CL=11 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1600 • 1.35V • 1024Meg x 64 • lead free • halogen free • for Mac). These meet Apple's spec for your iMac. I've never seen the memory you're considering used in an iMac. Why attempt to use memory that's not specified for the iMac?

Late 2012 iMacs have 4 ram slots...and a max ram capacity of 32gig. So as you mentioned you would need 4 x 8gig sticks of ram.

Here are the two places we usually recommend:

- OWC
- Crucial

1st - I'm not buying RAM from any supplier that won't take back defective sticks - and why I no longer buy them from newegg.

2nd - check out other Mac user reviews for them at newegg and several Mac user reviews at Amazon.

3rd, while I understand your main reasoning of wanting to upgrade to CL9 vs CL11 - think the primary issue would be the power requirements of those Kingston chips at 1.5v. Have not done any research on those sticks, but they may in fact not provide CL9 running in a system that only provides 1.35v. All of the current CL9 chips I've seen want that 1.5v. It's a lot easier on a Win machine with a BIOS that allows you to adjust power settings.

I'd go with the Crucial mentioned by techiesteve or the Crucial recommended part # for the quad core i7 - CT3650282 (They're probably really both the same.)

I live in Turkey and only Kingston and Corsair SO-DIMM RAMs are available in here. One of them is that Kingston HyperX one, and the other one is Kingston CL11 KVR16S11/8... So I only have two options in Kingston. The other available options that I have are Corsair's CL9 and CL10 SO-DIMM RAMs but since you don't recommend me to use CL9 or CL10 RAMs, the only option that I have is that CL11 Kingston but how can I be sure if this KVR16S11/8 will work with my iMac? I'm so confused

By the way I found a link which says these HyperX RAMs are working well with my iMac: 2012 27" iMac with 32GB Kingston HyperX Let's say that I bought these HyperX ones and saw that its working when I try it for the first time. All I'm thinking is that: Can anything go wrong after couple of days or months after that? Or if its worked once, will it work forever without any problems? If not, what can go wrong after time has passed?

I live in Turkey...

You should add your location to your profile. Sometimes a member's location can effect how questions are answered...and recommendations on where to purchase things can change.:)

Even from Australia find OWC the best to do business with. First class airmail is a little dear, but if in no hurry the cheaper USPS gets it here in 2-3 weeks.

You are waaaaayyyyy over thinking it. They will either work or won't.

There are already too many successful reviews of them being installed in various models of Macs to consider that you would have any problems.

Coming out of the overclocking community and use to buying the best (fastest I could find) memory... I did in fact with my first Mac, install some Corsair memory with lower CAS timings than anyone else offered. It is still running fine today, 6+ yrs later.

Today, I would stick with the standard chips, as I don't believe you will be able to discern any difference between them.
