Don't install it, it's likely you don't need it.
The only reason you'd need anti-virus is if your checking email before forwarding it on to Windows users.

There really is not a need for it. If you feel the need to install it i would use sophos but it isnt necessary.

I'd counter the Sophos recommendation and agree with you that there's no need for an anti-virus software, but if one is ABSOLUTELY needed, then I'd recommend ClamXav which is free and can be run on-demand as opposed to something that's constantly running and taking up resources for no reason..

Nothing new there. Stick with either ClamXAV or none like most senior Mac users do. And repeat give AVG a big miss.
