Hi All,
My late-2010 Macbook Pro (17 inch, 2.8GHz, 8GB RAM, OSX 10.8.3) has been getting slower and slower. Just today I had to reboot, and the shutdown and restart process took more than 15 minutes. I have a 500GB hard drive, only half of which is full, but I notice that the system is incredibly slow whenever the drive ends up in use.
My process list is a mile long -- far longer than I'd expect. I'll grant that I work my system, but most of these processes I've never even heard of, and so I'm wondering if something nefarious is going on.
In addition to the above, I routinely have Outlook, Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop open, and sometimes a second instance of Skype.
I use Onyx regularly, with little to show for it by way of improvements. And I'm considering getting an SSD (now that Crucial has 500GB models) to help improve the performance situation, but I can't help but wonder if that will just mask a larger problem.
What do you guys think? Any advice here?
