My Apple iBook G4 won’t open the Bankofamerica website using Safari or Firefox. Other bookmarked websites open ok. ASUS laptop using Windows 7 opens the Bankofamerica website ok.

Which versions of Safari & Firefox?
Which version of OSX?

What are bank of Americas requirements for OS and browser?

I'm guessing this is the problem. I imagine that, as a bank, it requires some encryption and security features not found on a browser that still works on a PPC.

We need to know the OSX version and version of both Safari and Firefox. My iBook G4 with 10.5.8 Leopard on it has no issues with either Wells Fargo or BofA sites.

I hope you are not running 10.3.9 Panther as Safari there has issues with many sites.

After what they did to the United States economy, I am flabbergasted that anyone would still be using BoA. Mind-boggling.

Don't use them here, just went to their site for the OP to see if it worked! :D

Sorry for the BoA aside. To get back on topic, I am 100 percent positive the problem the OP is having is directly related to use of an outdated OS version or outdated browser or both. Banks try to maintain the strongest security practical (while retaining convenience for their customers) so I'm sure BoA is using a security protocol that old iBook can't handle (at least, until the OP updates).

It's possible that nothing short of a newer machine will really fix the issue. Security standard change (which is a good thing), but computers can only be software-upgraded so far (which is a bad thing).

Agreed 100% with Chas on this. This screams of an outdated browser.

Unable to open BoA website

To answer the version questions:
Firefox is 3.6.28
Safari is 4.1.3 (4533.19.4)
Mac OS X is 10.4.11

By the way today, 5 days later, BoA opens up just fine. This temporary failure has happened before.

I know my system is old, which is why I also have the ASUS laptop with WIN 7 that worked fine when Apple did not. Just curious to know what is going on.

According to their website, you meet the requirements of their online banking system. Does it only happen on that site?

While I do agree with the info Van found those browsers are quite old and with an OS as old as Tiger, there is not much you can do. Tiger's Safari here opens up most sites but it's getting old and there will be some problem sites down the road.
