can macs w/ airport see other macs w/o a basestation present?

can a tower w/ an airport card become a base station and allow a laptop
to use the tower's internet access and network?

anyone experiment w/this?

im not sure if this is possible, since the airport card isnt designed to send a signal the same way the basestation does. the only way i can think of to try this is plug your connection into one of the 2 macs, and turn on Appletalk under System Preferences >> Network >> Configuration. Then under Sharing set to share your internet connection with computers on your network. (i might have gotten these 2 backwards, im working off memory while at work on my IBM maxipad) .... but i highly doubt this will work. youd be best getting a wireless router or airport basestation
