Hi guys, my Macbook Pro has recently started freezing, then doing the turning lines that go round in circle, then starting up again. I bought it in dec 2007. It has since had a new HD and mother board when under warranty. Any ideas???! I am very anxious! Many thanks.

Is it doing this randomly or have you noticed it occurs after a specific action?

The turning lines is called the beachball..

Let's get some specifics here. What type of Macbook Pro? You said from 2007, so what are the rest of the specs? What version of OS X? Open up Finder and then look at the bottom to see how much free space you have and what your total hard drive space is.

Open up Activity Monitor (from the Applications->Utilities folder) and then at the bottom, you will see a bunch of tabs. CPU, Network, Memory and so on. Click on the Memory tab and tell us what you have Free, Active, Used, and so on..

It could be a busy indicator as well (I only know what it's called as a Flex component so in case you know it by another name, it's this thing). I only suggest this since it's, "turning lines that go round in circle" which, as you know, appear during boot and shutdown.

When you see these turning lines, does anything else appear on screen?

Do you get the beachball or the spinning lines (see picture in my previous post for an example)? The two signify busy activity but represent very different contexts.

Barely enough free hard drive space to work efficiently. The norm is at least 15% and up to 25%.
