Hey,

My MacBook Pro has been crashing pretty frequently, it's to the point where it happens on a nearly daily basis. It happens usually when I try to click something, my screen will turn black and whatever audio was playing will have the last quarter second or so looped over and over, and I will have no choice but to shut off the computer and turn it back on. When I do, it prompts me saying "Your computer shut down because of a problem". I've clicked the "Report" button, but the reports seem fairly obscure and I can't really decipher them. I've been saving almost every report I got for about a month now I think.

Can anyone tell me what's happening with my computer and if there's any way to fix it? It would be a huge load off my mind. I'll post the most recent report if it'll help shed some light on the issue:
Interval Since Last Panic Report: 186415 sec

A couple of things. You should try resetting the NVRAM/PRAM using About NVRAM and PRAM and second, I see Sophos in the call stack. How long have you been running that on your system?

Thanks for the reply! I'll read up on that right away.

As far as Sophos goes, I've had it on my computer for a little over a year now I think. Is that one of the things contributing to the issue?

If Sophos has been around for a while and the issue started recently, there's no indication that it's the culprit. The entry " NVRM[0/1:0:0]: Read Error 0x00000100" in the log seems to point to something related to NVRAM. So a reset might clear that up.

I won't open up the can of worm that is anti-virus on OS X unless we really have to..:)

Just reset the NVRAM/PRAM, thanks for the suggestion, I hope it'll help!

Also if there's a chance that Sophos could be a factor, I could take that off too. I've never gotten too much use out of it to be honest, I've been alerted about a couple things, but nothing that could effect my computer.

How frequently was the crash occurring? Hopefully you'll know sooner rather than later if the NVRAM reset did the trick.

As far as anti-virus goes, my stance is that you don't need one. I haven't run anything on my iMac since I bought it in 2009 and it's been completely fine. You just have to be careful about where you visit and what you download and always be wary of entering your admin password when requested..

If you do want a level of comfort with the files you've downloaded, I recommend ClamXav which is a free anti-virus software that doesn't run all the time but rather can be run on files to ensure they are safe.

It ended up crashing almost once a day, if not more. It hasn't crashed yet though, so hopefully that fixed it.

I think I probably will swap out Sophos for that, thanks for the suggestion!
