Final cut pro x graphics card

The mac mini and the 13 inch rmbp's only have an intel 4000 graphics card.

The 15 inch rmbp has both intel 4000 and nvidia geforce cards.

Looking for pros and cons for use with FCPX. Do I need the geforce?

I am looking to upgrade from mbp 17" early 2011.

Simple answer: Dedicated graphics is always better.

But not necessarily necessary...Depends on the size/intensity of your projects...I have a late 2009 base iMac w/12gb RAM. I'm pretty happy with the performance of FCP X on my machine. FWIW

The 2009 base iMac that you own has a shared graphics card. In other words, it shares memory with the system's memory. The Mac Mini and 13" MBP the OP is referring to have a graphics card which borrows memory from the system while the 15" MBP has both types. Your experience with FCP is not typical. As stated, dedicated graphics is always better regardless of what you're running.

YES, a discrete video card is better, but the question is CAN Final Cut Pro X work with the Intel 4000 chipset, and the answer is YES.
