First of all a big Thank You to everyone in mac-forms - for all your input, it is greatly appreciated.
FIRST OF ALL SOME BACKGROUND BEFORE THE QUESTION:
~I have a 13" MacBook Pro with a 750GB harddrive, with 500+ Gb of data on it. Just before I traveled to Europe, I did a TimeMachine back up.
~ I am Europe now and want to give my Mac to a friend, with the idea of buying a MacBook Air when I get home.
~I also have an 8 year old 15" Mac Book pro at home with a 300GB hard drive with a lot of completely different data than what is on the 13" . It will be a few months before I can buy the new AirMac. So my question is ....
QUESTION 1
With my old 15" macbook running as normal, can I install my current TIME MACHINE backup for the 13" mac on a properly formatted external hard drive, and then will it run like a normal computer so I can access my data that was on the 13" --until I get my new AirMac
Question 2:
If it is possible to run a mac from an external hard drive with the 'main/original/internal' hard drive still in in operation - i.e. is there a way to switch back and forth between the two hard drives(the internal one and the external one) and operate each one separately?
I am here in Europe for only a week and need to know before I leave so I can decide if I can give my friend my 11"
Thanks for your help (and please don't be too tough on me for what may see to de a dumb question)
