So on crucial I go to check out what type of RAM I need fill in all the questions and heres what i get. when I click on the "ibook G4" I get PC2100 and when I click on the "ibook G4 12 inch" I get PC2700. How do I know which one is mine because I do have a G4 and it is 12 inch? Why are they different?

i always thought that you could put slower RAM in and it will just run slower.

PC 2700 works in an ibook, but it will run at PC2100. It's bacward compatible in that way. There's nothing wrong with getting PC2700, but the ibook can only work at the PC2100 speed. So, you will not get any performance boost with PC2700 over PC2100.

ok now I am real confused. So i can get 2100, even though the specs say 2700. What are the differences in the two? speed? reliability? Because the 2100 is about 10 bucks cheaper on most sites. Sorry for all the stupid questions but this is new to me

i'm not so sure, but if it's only $10 cheaper on most sites, you may as well go for broke and get the better one just in case it's more reliable or better.

What CPU is in your 12" iBook? The latest 12" with the 1.33Ghz G4 HAS to have a PC2700 Dimm. If yours is the slightly older iBook 12" at 1.2Ghz, it will run with a PC2100 Dimm. If yours is the older model, you can use a PC2700 Dimm if you want but you can not go the other way if you have the latest 1.33Ghz iBook. That one has to have a PC2700.

So which ibook do you have?

Hi, I am thinking to upgrade my iBook 12" 1.2Ghz as well. Currently, it only have a single 256MB RAM chip. After reading this post, I think it's ok to get a 1GB PC2700 RAM for my iBook. Now my question is can I buy any brand of RAM as long as it's PC2700 SODIMM? Do I have to care about other specs like is it UNBUFFERED, NON-ECC or anything else?

Thanks.

Opps, sorry about that. If you check the ram in the New Egg Link you will get the idea of what to order. Good Luck!
