Confused by methods of communication

Can anyone explain (or give me an information source) the differences between ethernet, Fire Wire, Airport and WiFi.
This knowledge will greatly enhance my understanding as to how my various devices link up (and make sense of the settings I am asked to make).
Very grateful for any help here.

Airport is Apple's implementation of WiFi support on their devices.

The wiki explanations were too obtuse, but I managed to find some excellent explanations on the web site HowStuffWorks "Learn how Everything Works!".

OK, whatever websites works to add to your knowledge is fine..

These technologies have been around for a good length of time and can be explained by many folks..
