Error/Crash Report Macbook Pro

Hey, I was wondering if anyone knew what was going on here. My computer was acting a bit slow up until this happened, and it started a few days ago. I would be running even only 3 applications and a message would come up saying I had run out of disk space- but I have plenty of room left on my computer...?

I was going to paste the error report here but apparently I didn't copy it...

Anyone know maybe where the logs are saved so I could get it on here or is there any info I could put on here that would help figure out what's going on?

We're going to need to see that error report first. The next time it pops up, take a screen shot and post it here for us to look over.

You can also gain access to your logs from the Apple menu at the top left of your screen. Click on it and click on "About this Mac". Then click on "More Info" and "System Report". Scroll on down to "Software" and then to "Logs". Open the error log and copy it to the clipboard.

It looks like a memory fault but I can't tell for sure. Try starting your MacBook Pro in safe mode and run it that way for awhile to see how it acts. Hold down your Shift key as soon as you hear the "Bong!" sound and keep holding it until the Apple and spinning circle appears. Starting in safe mode disables all third party drivers and startup applications. It also removes the sound and verifies the hard drive. Let us know the result and we can go from there.

Once I'm in safe mode what should I do though? I feel like it's running normal now, maybe just a tiny bit slower than normal, but is there something it will tell me or something I should look/check for while running in safe mode?

If it runs OK in safe mode for awhile that tells us the problem is not with the hardware. And that's good since a hardware problem can be expensive to repair. It's more than likely a bad driver or software that may be causing the crash.

Are you running any kind of anti-virus or cleaning software? Software such as MacKeeper or Clean My Mac?

I get the same message: "Your Startup disk is full; close any open apps and discard any files..." It is not an error message, and it appears when I have nothing open. So an applestore rep in Albuquerque told me to ditch Mackeeper (I did) and it didn't help at all.
Also he said to go into the disk utility regularly and repair disk permissions. Did that and it still comes up with this msg. plus upon checking available memory I've got plenty - a little less than half the 4 g.

I'm running lion (X10.75)

I don't know if it is related, but I lost my I-Tunes library on this computer (got it on my old IMac and my Iphone) - not sure if it disappeared into the Cloud??? or when I loaded it onto the phone.

Ohh dear MacKeeper. Hope you simply did not just drag it to the Trash as it can be the very devil to get rid of.

Let's be sure we're all talking about the same things -
available memory is RAM
startup disk space is hard drive (storage) space.

How much hard drive space do you have? Highlight Mac HD - then File > Get Info (or command-i).

I'm not running any antivirus programs. The rep at the apple store removed Mackeeper while I was there - I can search for any residuals on that - I liked Mackeeper actually, but the rep said it was not effective, possibly harmful.


On my HD memory info, I have 463.03 gb free out of 499.25. But the message clearly states: "the startup disk is full" and then goes on to say to close open programs and files.

Let's find out what's going on with your hard drive space. That message clearly shouldn't be popping up if you have all that free space remaining on your hard drive.

Are you using Time Machine? If you are, and do not have the external hard drive attached Time Machine will continue to make backups but will temporarily store them on your internal hard drive.

Download the free "Disk Inventory X" from here. That will show what's taking up space on your hard drive.

Disk inventory showed that I was using 10+GB on photo storage, so since those pix are saved on my IMac I sent them to the trash along with the Olympus program they were from. Maybe that will do the trick.
