Ok, just got VLC to cooperate.

Open VLC - Preferences - put a check mark next to:

'Use the native full screen control on OS X Lion'

This option is greyed out and im not able to check it...

Then I'd go back to where mrplow was trying to get you to delete the VLC preference file.
Quit VLC.

Open Finder - on the menu bar click on 'Go'
While holding that down, press the option key - you should now see Library appear in the list - select it.

This is the ~Library folder - then head for Preferences.
I'd try moving all of the org.videolan... items to the desktop and then give it a try again.

Thanks for the info Bob, tried that and it didnt seem to work.

I did go into the settings, and then Show All, then down to Interface then Main then MacOSX and made sure that Use Native Full Screen on OSX Lion was selected, but ti didnt seem to make a difference...

Glad you got some solution.

A bit concerned you're not getting spaces/desktop options off of the dock icon. In Mountain Lion that should be available for all apps in the dock

I think you need to have at least two desktops showing in mission control before the option becomes available

I don't have that option there either - from anything in the Dock - with 3 active desktops.
Pretty sure I have never seen that option either.
Could very well be some system preference I turned off early on though.

Maybe a hangover from previous OSX installs? My iMac was replaced so it was a pre-installed with Mountain Lion. I'll have to check my other Macs.

I've seen some posts suggesting deleting the dock.plist but if it's doing no harm . . . . .

I was recently looking up how to fix the same problem and this worked for me!
Hopefully it helps someone out there :)

Go to:

> System Preferences
> Mission Control
> "Displays have separate Spaces" needs to be unchecked!

then log out and log back into your account and VLC should move into a new Space when played in fullscreen mode!

Hope this helps :)
