Question - Custom Mac OS X Machine

I'm not really sure what forum this belongs in, but here goes...

This question may be obvious to some people, but not to me. Is it possible to custom build a Mac OS X machine? I mean, can you buy a case, HD, memory, CPU, etc, and install OS X? I've never heard of such a thing done.

Sorry if this a dumb question, but I thought about it, and really couldn't think of an answer.

Aluminium Macbook 2.4 Ghz 4GB RAM, SSD 24" Samsung Display, iPhone 4, iPad 2
With PowerPC based macs, this wasn't really practical or economical as PowerPC chips are hard to come by, and Apple has always used custom motherboards that they've designed themselves.
Since the new intel macs are based on standardized hardware this should feasibly be possible, however Apple has built in software protection to prevent OS X being installed on non-Apple hardware..

It is not possible to build a mac your self, because you can not buy mac parts indavidualy (only as a group in a mac, imac emac macmini ibook powerbook powermac)

Not a dumb question if you dont know.

You can't build a custom Mac with 3rd party parts (ie logic board, processor) but you can do a built to order mac with custom parts (Video card, hard drive, PCI cards ect)

Here's a good video segment from The Screen Savers about it.

EDIT: You may want to view it at 800x600, as the video is a bit grainy, and since it's at standard TV size it's smaller on the average PC screen.
