Restoring from Time Machine to new OS

Hey guys,

Have just clean installed Snow Leopard over Leopard. I made a time machine backup before doing this and now want to restore all my files (but obviously not the old OS) onto Snow Leopard.

Do I go back through the SL installer to perform this?

The time to have done it would have been during the installation of SL when it asked if you wanted to restore from a Time Machine or other backup.
Actually, am not sure any longer if SL asks that or not.

At this point you could use Migration Assistant - have never used it, but I believe it imports your stuff into a 2nd account, not the account you created when you installed SL.


Or, boot from the SL install DVD and once the Installer starts running choose Utilities –> Restore System from Backup.
It is best to connect via ethernet when doing this as it can take a long time - same as your first Time Machine backup.

Or you can reinstall SL and this time click yes when it asks if you want to restore from your backup.

Check above again - did a little editing - it's been a few years since I touched Snow Leopard.
