On my activity monitor i was just looking at my Ram usage, which is fine, but then i saw the VM size and it was HUGE! Does this effect how fast my mac will run ?

Can you empty it, like you would empty a cache?

Also, whilst im here, can someone simply explain page ins and page outs please?

Thanks :D

The short answer is no. VM size is just the total amount of RAM allocated to POSSIBLE use by all the running processes. Sort of like how you have a $10,000 credit limit on your credit card, but your actual liquid cash on hand is way less.

Bottom line: ignore VM size. Swap used and page-outs are the important measures to notice, and yours are in great shape.
