ipod & ipad not appearing in itunes

imac 10.6.8
I tunes does not show ipad(2, with ios6) or ipod .
I have trashed itunes, restart,empty trash, restart & the reinstall itunes & devices are there.
Next day after shutdown, devices are not shown again.
This started after upgrade to itunes 11.2.
even did a delete & reinstall of itunes 10.7
(eMac Consulting | Joe Streno | Downgrade iTunes 11 to iTunes 10.7)
and am getting the same results....
Any ideas out there????

I assume we are talking about devices that are NOT hardwired by USB cord to the computer?

missing devices in itunes

these devices are connected via USB.
today the ipod is shown( itunes 10.7) but not the ipad

First things to try:
1. new cable
2. different USB port - don't use a hub powered or otherwise
3. Go into About this Mac - System Profiler and look at the USB devices. Can you see the iPad or iPad connected here even when iTunes doesn't detect them?

I have this happen every once in a while and I just close iTunes wait a few seconds then re-open and all devices are discovered.

Ipad not appearing in itunes

wired via USB & showing in system profile.
Only appears in itunes when I trash itunes,empty trash,restart,empty trash again,restart & reinstall itunes( 11 this time,OSX 10.6.8).
then will not show up again after restart.
Have done DISC REPAIR, PERMISSION REPAIR also.

1. If you log into the guest user, or create a new user and install iTunes in there does that detect your devices?

2. Have you tried new cables?
